The BMS 8i is a battery management system designed for use with LiPol, Li-Ion and LiFePO4 cells, as well as other cells with an operational voltage range of 1.8V to 5V per cell. The BMS 8i protects the batteries and extends their lifetime by measuring their operational temperatures, capacity, and analysing the voltage together with current flow measuring. The BMS 8i controls the energy storage system during charging and discharging cycles. Manages the balancing of each cell, monitors thermal behaviour, communicates with a superior system and contorol system relay and contactors. The BMS 8i can operate with a maximum of 8 cells in series. For higher operational voltages, it needs to be connected to a larger system via the internal bus RS485, where a limitation of up to 8× BMS 8i modules (1× MASTER/7× SLAVEs) applies, leading to a system configuration of up to 64 cells connected in series with a maximum energy storage system operational voltage of 270 V.
The BMS 8i has very low power consumption of around 20 µA in ‘OFF’ mode. The BMS 8i system automatically performs self-testing, and the critical balancing components have been doubled to ensure that the cells are protected against uncontrolled discharge, even if any component fails. The system can still operate safely in this case, providing information about the failure to the superior system via the CAN bus while also requesting a service action.
BMS 8i, as well as all other BMSes from MGM COMPRO, has a unique measurement of internal voltage of cells, based on accurate internal resistence measurements, this functionaly offers precise definition of actual SOC also during full operation conditions.
With the MGM ProTool software application and OPTOCOM-6i communication interface, we offer comfortable settings modification, real-time monitoring and system log reading. You can also update the BMS device’s firmware at any time.
