BMS 16Ai is the Battery Management System with active cell balancing, designed for batteries, which use LiPol, Li-Ion, LiFePO4 cells or other type of cells with operational voltage range 2V – 4,5V per cell. The BMS 16i protects the batteries and extends their lifetime by measuring their operational temperatures, capacity, and analysing the voltage together with current flow measuring. BMS 16Ai control the battery during the charging and discharging, manage the balancing of each cell, communicate with superior system and handle a system relay and contactors. BMS 16Ai is able to control max. 16 cells, but could be connected into the larger system thru the internal bus (RS485), where could be max. 14× BMS 16Ai modules (1× Master / 13× Slaves), which could control up to 224 serial connected cells with max. battery voltage 800V.
The BMS 16Ai uses energy transfer from the higher voltage cells to the lower voltage cells to balance the cells in the battery systems. This ensures higher balancing energy efficiency, decreasing energy losses and cooling requirements for the BMS during balancing. If battery system requires one BMS to used, the energy is transferred within it. If the battery systems is based on multiple BMSs, the balancing energy is transferred over the bus between the BMSs so that each has sufficient energy to balanced the required cells. BMS 16Ai is powered directly from the monitored battery and works fully independently.
The BMS 16i has very low power consumption of around 20 µA in ‘OFF’ mode. The BMS 16i system automatically performs self-testing, and the critical balancing components have been doubled to ensure that the cells are protected against uncontrolled discharge, even if any component fails. The system can still operate safely in this case, providing information about the failure to the superior system via the CAN bus while also requesting a service action. With the MGM ProTool software application and OPTOCOM-6i communication interface, we offer comfortable settings modification, real-time monitoring and system log reading. You can also update the BMS device’s firmware at any time.
